  Nice bar at the Mekong River been here twice on my two trips to Vientiane. it's a bit off the other places around but nice and quiet. Perfect to enjoy some drinks and have a view on the river and Nong Kai in Thailand. The owner is a nice guy. I will come back anytime I'm in Vientiane.

  This was so disappointing we were looking for somewhere to watch the wimbledon final. Walking up to the bar we thought great its in a perfect location, but when we walked in we did not feel welcome in anyway apart from the smiley waitress. She didn't really understand that we just wanted to look at the menu and check the place before returning later for when the tennis started. The owner was sat at the bar and wasn't sure what time it started most sports bars have made the effort to look at the daily sports schedule to they know these things. We ended up sitting down whilst we decided whether to have a drink immediately or go back to our hotel freshen up and come back and have dinner and drinks closer to when the tennis started. Before sitting down we had mentioned that we might want to reserve the table and the owner chirps "you have to spend a lot of money if you want to reserve a table"....(fair enough if there is a minimum spend or if reservation isn't possible but don't be so rude about explaining this). We were literally just about to get up and say we would be back later with 2 more people (so we would be 6 in total) for dinner and drinks but the owner just comes up to us and says "Are you going to order a beer or what...?" whilst we are replying the "yes we were just discussing what we are going to do" He speaks over us saying... "you can't just sit here and watch the TV and not order a drink" We weren't watching the TV as it was showing reruns of the tennis from the previous day. I wish the owner was friendly because then I could have tried the nice food that people are talking about and watch the sunset over the Mekong, instead we walked out and vowed never to return on principal. Just smile and be friendly it costs you nothing and you might get more passing business!
